I’m pretty excited about today’s post for a number of reasons!
+ I’ve finally found a skincare regimen that works for getting rid of my acne scars and texture issues.
+ Every product is affordable! Duh.
+ I was able to use my $8 backdrop- marble contact paper int these photos. (it’s the little things)
Ok, so let’s dive in shall we?
I have always had an issue with acne scars and dark spots on my face (I’m being honest when I say that I do NOT follow the rules of Breakouts 101 and leave them alone.) So, I’ve had to deal with the consequences of my actions and stare at these horrible purple dots all over my chin. Not cool.
I’ve really kind of tried everything and nothing has really worked for me. Until I discovered my secret skincare regimen.
The perks of working at a Cosmetic Sugery practice is that I really am surrounded by great skincare. And I am beyond happy to say that we’ve finally started to integrate a more organic, cruelty-free, natural line into the office. Alastin Skincare has quickly become one of my faves and I am obsessed, like really really obsessed with their Retinol.
Having crazy sensitive skin, this is huge for me, because I’ve been using it steadily 3x a week for 2 weeks now and can already see quite a difference in my face, but I didn’t have any irritation, redness, or dryness. I don’t know how they do it. It’s gentle enough, but still potent enough to do its job.
What is Retinol and Why Is It Amaze??
Retinol is a vitamin A derivative, and can be found in a ton of skincare products to help with anti-aging.
“It can stimulate the metabolism of skin cells and encourage collagen production. Retinol can be absorbed within the skin and, when combined with certain enzymes, it’s converted into tretinoin (the acid form of vitamin A, also known as retinoic acid). Using a well-formulated and stable product with retinol will visibly reduce the appearance of sun damage, brown spots, lines, wrinkles and large pores. Its magic is in its ability to resurface the skin’s texture for a smoother, more even-toned look.” | Source |
Pretty much the best thing to be bottled up and sold to people.
Next product that I just love love love:
Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel Sensitive– This got amazing reviews online and comes in the full strength version and sensitive skin version. Obviously, never having used it before, I went for the sensitive skin one. I’ve used it twice and I have to say that I can feel and see a huge difference already.
The Green Apple Peel is my fave because it does the following-
+ Helps even skin tone and texture, and reduces the appearance of dark spots & discoloration with a potent patented dose of alpha hydroxy acids (malic acid from organic green apples, glycolic and lactic acids) and beta hydroxy acid (salicylic acid from willow bark).
+ Blurs the appearance of fine lines with Vitamin A.
+ Helps fight free radicals with antioxidant-rich resveratrol from grapeseed.
+ Nourishes with Vitamins A, C & E for healthy looking skin.
I use the mask 2 times a week and leave it on for about 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water, and apply a hydrating moisturizer, and voila! Gorgeous skin.
Now, I’ve only been using the Green Apple Peel and my Retinol for a few weeks, but I use the Retinol 3 times a week, and will not use it the same days I do the Peel. And I try to give my skin a break in between.
So, Sunday, Wednesday, Friday I use my Retinol, and Thursday & Saturday I’ll do the peel.
Eventually I can just use the Retinol every night, but for now, my little system works just fine.
Sometimes using products like these can dry out your skin, so I am always making sure to use coconut oil or this overnight mask afterward to keep my skin glowy and fabulous. And when it comes to cleansing, I love the Pacifica Cactus Water Makeup Remover Wipes (for those lazy IDGAF days), or ELF Gentle Cleanser.
Obviously everyone’s skin is crazy different and some products may not work for you, so I would just consult with an Aesthetician before switching up your skincare game. Or you can be like me and just kind of wing it and hope for the best! Ha.
Seriously though, I used to get insane breakouts all the time, and lately my skin hasn’t 100% hated me and wished nothing but embarrassment upon me. It’s been pretty damn nice.
Dish below on your skincare faves!!
